The Basilica of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Voćin on the slopes of Papuk is one of the most beautiful Croatian Gothic monuments, whose interior is dominated by works by famous Croatian artists such as the main entrance door of sculptor Hrvoje Ljubić and the large wooden cross by the sculptor Šime Vulas. In the fascinating park that surrounds the basilica, plants have been planted that arrived in Voćin from as many as five continents, so when you see all this, it is hard to imagine that on December 13, 1991, the church was demolished to its foundations. Its restoration by facsimile reconstruction lasted from 1996 to 2011, and today it is known for the traditional pilgrimage of families with children on the feast of the Assumption.
