The UNESCO Transboundary Biosphere Reserve Mura – Drava – Danube is also an extremely attractive area. The area stretches along 72,5 km of the Drava River in Virovitica-Podravina County. It is adorned with a wealth of species and habitats and overall biological and landscape diversity. The area is characterized by wetlands: floodplain forests, wet grasslands, dead backwaters, abandoned riverbeds, meanders and steep sloping shores. 318 bird species have been recorded in the Croatian part of the reserve, 116 of which are in the Virovitica-Podravina County. The Drava River is unique in Croatia for more than 65 species of fish have been recorded so far.
