Monastery of St. Nicholas

Unexpectedly Mystic

One of the oldest orthodox monasteries in Croatia found its refuge in the quiet of the Papuk forest back at the end of 16th century. Beside the monastery, there is also the Church of St. Nicholas with valuable frescos. The church is the only sample of the so-called Moravia school of architecture in Slavonia. This zero-category cultural monument is visited throughout the year by orthodox persons but also excursionists and hikers who, after having seen the edifice, most often walk to the nearby Iskrica source. Nearby is also the Petar’s top from where you have a magnificent view on the Slavonian valley and, if the weather is good, on Hungarian mountains.
